POSTNATAL MASSAGE THERAPY
You can come for a postnatal massage whenever you feel comfortable enough, even after a week.
Unless you’ve had a Caesarean birth and then 2-3 weeks post partum is generally suggested.
Typically, we like to see you within a month of giving birth. There are many reasons for this. The first, is so we can help realign muscles from a change in centre of gravity. This change occurs from having a big belly in front to suddenly none. The tension in your mid back tends to increase post partum for this reason, as well as from carrying your newborn and breast fullness. Breast feeding and bottle feeding increases the tension here, as well as in the neck and head from looking down at your beautiful new bundle.
Depending on your labour and birth, you may have increased muscle tension, congestion, swelling in extremities, headaches, nerve flow issues such as tingling and numbness and other symptoms of discomfort.
We are here to help you feel better.
Postnatally many changes are occurring in the body. Some prenatal hormones can linger up to 6 months post partum, continuing the laxity of ligaments seen in pregnancy.
We are trained in Caesarean birth rehabilitation. This includes assessment and mobilization of the scar tissue in progressive measures. This is a gentle treatment. Mobilization here is key to creating a “functional scar”. That is, a scar that is not adhered to underlying structures as much as possible. This treatment can also decrease the visibility of the scar, as the tissue fibres begin to realign. Strengthening exercises are given in due time.
Being a mom of a newborn can be a challenging time. We encourage you to visit our clinic, get some of your questions answered and get your body recharged. Feel better, you deserve it!
