TEEN & ADULT CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY can be booked with Marla Pickering RMT and Cassidy Hodgkin RMT.
Cassidy and Annie have an integrated approach to treating infants. With over 40 years of experience between them, they employ a diverse range of training, wisdom and techniques, including *CranioSacral Therapy, during each session of infant massage therapy. Using assessment skills and working with parents to gain a clear understanding of what is normal or difficult for your baby, their goal is to ease restriction and discomfort your baby may be experiencing.
The journey of being in utero, through the birthing process and being out in the big world can be challenging for babies and families.
The many benefits of receiving treatment for your infant may include relaxation, improved sensory and reflex integration, deeper and longer sleep, better bonding and attachment, stimulated circulatory and GI systems, pain relief and enhanced nervous system development. Our aim is to give parents the knowledge and tools to continue to use with your baby at home.
*CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on technique that uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of the fluids in and around the central nervous system. Relieving tension in the central nervous system promotes a feeling of well-being by reducing pain and boosting whole-body health, immunity and performance.
When should I bring my baby in for a massage?
Our recommendation is to bring your baby in for treatment as early as it works for your family, ideally in their first month. Babies can experience forces that contribute to misalignment and tension both from their in-utero position and their birth experience. Identifying these issues early, even minor ones, can set them up for better feeding and sleep and prevent issues like torticollis (wry neck) and flat head syndrome (plagiocephaly). If you don’t have concerns, we can give your baby more of a general treatment to support growth and development and give you tools to use at home.
What does an Infant massage treatment entail?
When you bring your baby in for treatment, we will take time to listen to your concerns and observations about your baby. We will always work in a manner that is best for you and your baby, knowing that their needs come first. There will be an assessment portion where we will observe through facilitated movement where your baby may have restrictions. We use gentle techniques and work with your baby to help restore balance and ease restrictions that we may find. Sometimes we will treat your baby fully clothed and when indicated, we may have you undress your baby to their diaper and may use oil as well. We often do an intra-oral assessment and treat here when appropriate. A gloved finger will be used to assess your infant’s palate and oral movements. A light touch is used to address any issues we identify. Communication and consent with parents is constant throughout the session.
